Markets staged a broad recovery by mid-afternoon on Friday, October 30, 2026, with the Sensex trading at 74,695.54, up 544.50 points or 0.73 per cent, and the Nifty 50 at 23,101.35, gaining 164.60 points or 0.72 per cent, as of 12.46 pm, breaching the psychologically significant 23,100 mark despite a weak global backdrop. The Nifty’s Advance Decline Ratio stood at 31:19, reflecting moderately broad-based buying. On BSE, of 4,588 stocks traded, 2,654 advanced and 1,716 declined, while 218 remained unchanged. Ninety-three stocks hit 52-week highs against 161 touching 52-week lows, with 17 stocks in the upper circuit and 41 in the lower circuit.

Trent continued to lead the Nifty 50 gainers, surging 6.30 per cent to ₹3,041.90 on volumes of over 32.16 lakh shares worth ₹97,503.53 lakh. IndiGo climbed 3.42 per cent to ₹4,835, touching a session high of ₹4,869 on volumes of 11.72 lakh shares. HCL Technologies rose 2.88 per cent to ₹1,444.30, hitting a high of ₹1,452, while Sun Pharmaceutical Industries gained 2.67 per cent to ₹1,808.10, touching ₹1,813.50 intraday. Infosys advanced 2.40 per cent to ₹1,174, with over 63 lakh shares changing hands worth ₹73,715.21 lakh, among the most actively traded on the index.

The IT sector was the best performing sectoral index, rising more than 1.5 per cent in early trade and sustaining gains through the session. Pharma stocks also continued to attract buying interest, with Sun Pharma’s gains reinforcing the sectoral outperformance. The Nifty India Defence index was the worst performer among sectoral indices.

On the losing side, Coal India declined 1.32 per cent to ₹387.90, remaining under sustained pressure with a massive 1.54 crore shares traded worth ₹59,595.88 lakh, making it one of the heaviest volumes on the exchange. Nestlé India slipped 1.11 per cent to ₹1,175.40, Shriram Finance fell 0.97 per cent to ₹832.95, Adani Enterprises dropped 0.93 per cent to ₹2,583.70 after hitting a session low of ₹2,557, and Tata Steel declined 0.90 per cent to ₹167.93 on volumes of 70.75 lakh shares.

Crude oil continued to exert pressure on market sentiment, with WTI trading around $103.31, up 0.45 per cent, after briefly surging to $104.99 before facing selling resistance above $104. MCX Crude Oil was trading around ₹9,832, up 1.27 per cent. Renewed geopolitical concerns, including reports of a senior US military officer briefing President Donald Trump on military options concerning Iran ahead of the November 3 midterm elections, kept energy prices elevated. “The crude oil headwind is getting stronger with Brent rising above $117,” Dr. V K Vijayakumar of Geojit Investments had noted at the open, a concern that continued to shadow the session.

On the commodities front, COMEX Gold was down 0.65 per cent near $4,005, with the $4,000 support level in focus. COMEX Silver underperformed sharply, falling 1.85 per cent to around $51.40, with its RSI near 25, indicating deeply oversold conditions. Domestically, MCX Gold was trading around ₹141,840, down 0.53 per cent, while MCX Silver slid 1.33 per cent to ₹186,930. The rupee remained largely steady at 95.20 against the dollar, with the USD/INR pair moving in a narrow 95.10–95.30 band.

Technically, the Nifty’s breach of 23,100 is meaningful. SBI Securities noted that the 22,900–22,920 zone now acts as crucial support, while resistance lies at 23,210–23,230. A surge above 23,230 could extend the rally towards 23,380. On the options front, meaningful call writing was seen at the 23,100 and 23,200 strikes, while the 23,000 put held substantial open interest, followed by 22,900. For the Sensex, support is pegged at 74,100 and resistance at 75,000. With roughly three hours of trade remaining, the market’s ability to hold the 23,000–23,100 zone will determine whether Friday closes the week on a firm footing.
