Rosneft-backed Nayara Energy said that it has commissioned its VGO-MHC (vacuum gasoil mild hydrocracker) revamp project at the Vadinar refinery, which now enables 100 per cent of its diesel production to continuously meet BS-VI standards.
The upgrade not only strengthens the 20 million tonnes per annum (mtpa)-capacity refinery’s ability to reliably produce cleaner fuels and support India’s growing energy requirements, but also leads to lower planned maintenance shutdowns.
The project extends the unit’s operating cycle by more than 150 per cent, enabling longer periods between planned shutdowns and greater continuity of fuel production and supply. It also improves efficiency and crude processing flexibility, raising India’s second-largest single-site refinery’s Nelson Complexity Index to 12.6.
Sergey Denisov, Chief Development Officer at Nayara Energy, said, “Despite a challenging global environment, the project was successfully commissioned through a more self-reliant execution approach. This included the installation of a 1,435-tonne reactor in a live refinery environment, underscoring Nayara Energy’s ability to safely execute complex refinery upgrades at scale.”
These ongoing investments reinforce the company’s role as a reliable partner in advancing India’s energy self-sufficiency, ensuring uninterrupted supply, and supporting the nation’s long-term growth and prosperity.
Nayara Energy has adopted a phase-wise asset development strategy and has forayed into the petrochemicals sector with a 450,000 tonnes per annum polypropylene plant which is a significant step in its crude to chemicals journey. The company also operates more than 7,000 fuel retail outlets (ROs) with one-third servicing rural India.
