Tata Consumer Products reported a better-than-expected second-quarter net profit of ₹469 crore, up from ₹404 crore a year earlier, driven by steady demand for packaged foods and beverages. The company is expanding beyond tea and salt, with its growth businesses now contributing 38% of India revenue, up from 32% last year.
Tata Consumer Products reported a better-than-expected net profit for the July-September quarter, as steady demand for packaged foods and beverages supported its push to expand beyond its traditional tea and salt businesses. The maker of Tata Salt and Tetley tea posted a consolidated net profit of ₹469 crore for the quarter ended September 30, compared with ₹404 crore a year earlier.
The company is betting on new product categories to drive its next phase of growth. Managing Director and CEO Sunil D’Souza said the business now has “four strong legs on the TCPL stool”, reflecting its expanding portfolio beyond its core businesses.

New bets with bigger bite
The company’s growth businesses accounted for 38% of its India revenue in the second quarter of FY27, up from 32% a year earlier. The increase reflects Tata Consumer’s efforts to build new revenue streams alongside its established tea and salt operations.
To sustain this momentum, the company is targeting 5% of sales from innovation. It launched 22 new products in 12 weeks, underlining its push to expand into newer categories.

According to a CNBC report, D’Souza said Tata Consumer would soon launch protein water after completing quality checks. The company also plans to enter functional foods and nutraceuticals, extending its presence in categories focused on specific consumer needs.
Beyond product launches, Tata Consumer has outlined six strategic priorities: strengthening core businesses, building new growth opportunities, improving execution, creating a future-ready organisation, advancing digital capabilities and innovation, and embedding sustainability across operations.
Artificial intelligence is another focus area. The company sees AI-led digital transformation as a way to increase revenue, rather than merely reduce costs. Its initiatives cover sales and distribution, operational improvements and a pipeline of future projects.
Core bets
While newer categories are gaining ground, Tata Consumer’s established businesses continue to contribute to growth, though their performance has varied.
India Salt recorded 15% revenue growth and 9% volume growth despite price increases during the quarter. India tea and coffee, however, reported flat volumes and a marginal decline in revenue from a year earlier, reflecting subdued demand across the categories.
Its premium staples brand, Tata Sampann, remained a strong performer, delivering 57% revenue growth led by volumes. Its dry fruits and cold-pressed oils businesses together reached an annualised revenue run rate of about ₹1,000 crore.
Ready-to-drink beverages also expanded rapidly, with revenue rising 47% and volumes growing 34%. Growth was spread across the portfolio, supported by premium products and new launches, including Tata Gluco Plus with added iron and Tata ION, a functional electrolyte drink.
Meanwhile, Capital Foods grew 18% and Organic India 9%. Their combined domestic business recorded 24% growth, although shipping disruptions affected exports. Capital Foods’ innovation-to-sales ratio stood at 10%, highlighting the role of new products in its growth strategy.
As Tata Consumer expands into protein water, functional foods and other emerging categories, its challenge will be to turn new launches into sustained revenue growth while maintaining momentum in its established businesses.
